But what exactly are Passkeys?
Passkeys are a modern alternative to traditional passwords, utilizing cryptographic key pairs. These keys are generated on your iPhone, with the private key remaining securely stored on your device, ensuring it's never exposed.
Here's how to set up and use this game-changing feature:
Creating and Saving Passkeys:
- Open the app or website on your iPhone and navigate to the sign-in or account creation page.
- For new accounts, tap 'Sign Up' and follow the prompts. For existing accounts, sign in and head to your account settings.
- Look for the passkey option and tap 'Continue' when prompted to save it.
- Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
- Your passkey is now safely stored in iCloud Keychain and linked to your Apple ID.
Note: If passkeys aren't available, the app or website may not support them yet.
You can also store passkeys on hardware security keys for added security.
Signing In with Passkeys:
- Open the app or website and go to the sign-in page.
- Tap the account name field, and a suggested account will appear.
